Lille 2020 - World Design Capital.

In 2020, Lille was named World Design Capital by the World Design Organization — a first for a French city. This title highlighted the region’s ambition to use design as a driver for innovation in society, the economy, and the environment.

Throughout the year, over 600 collaborative projects were launched to tackle major challenges like ecological transition, urban planning, social inclusion, mobility, and digital transformation.
I took part in this ambitious initiative, contributing to a design-led approach focused on experimentation, collaboration, and real impact. Lille became a true design laboratory, where creativity met public innovation to shape a better, more sustainable future.

“A visual identity built around parentheses.”

For Lille 2020, I designed a visual identity based on a simple concept: parentheses as a symbol of the city. They frame and contain the projects, just as Lille embraces the diversity of design. Each visual invites the viewer to discover what the city has to offer — creativity, innovation, and transformation. The identity is modular and flexible, designed to adapt across various formats while maintaining a strong, consistent look.

Visual Identity

The graphic structure follows a simple logic:

On the left, a series of radiating lines represent energy, movement, and the dynamic nature of the region.

On the right, a fluid curved shape echoes an open parenthesis.

Together, they form a distinctive frame that contains images, illustrations, or messages.

The slogan "Design is capital, Lille is its capital." grounds the message locally, while the framing elements act as an invitation to discover everything design has to offer.
